Yes, Indians really did (and do) live near Burnet. Long ago Indians lived and hunted in great numbers across Central Texas.
There were three tribes who lived close to Burnet. They were the Lipan-Apache, the Comanche and the Tonkawa.

This tree is called the Indian Tree. It is said that the Indians marked the good camping grounds by
tying a young sapling to the ground where it would grow into a big tree. This one is located in Burnet
on Highway 29 West near the Hamilton Creek Park.

The Texas Indian Hobbyist Association hold special meetings called Pow Wow's here in Burnet at the
Galloway Hammond Recreation Center. You can call there to find out when the next one will be held.
