Twice a year HISTORY COMES TO LIFE and the fort is filled with living memories of the Texas Frontier.
Fort Croghan Day
Come to the fort and see how it was done in the early days of the frontier. Watch a blacksmith pounding out iron on his anvil or sugar cane being made into syrup. Taste warm home made bread right out of an iron stove or visit the one room school and see what it was like to "do your lessons" on a slate board. Come listen to the live music and watch as frontiersmen make camp. You might even see a few Indians, but don't worry, they are friendly these days.
Fort Croghan Day celebrates the lives and efforts of those brave souls willing to risk all to make the Texas frontier their new home. Held the second Saturday in October from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Admission and parking are FREE, donations graciously accepted.
For information on how you or your group can become a part of the living history of Fort Croghan contact us at (512) 756-8281 or email us at info@fortcroghan.org. All participants are volunteers.
Come on home to visit the folks at Christmas as real life families and organizations celebrate the holiest of seasons as their ancestors once did. Enjoy a Christmas cookie and some hot cider as you stroll along the luminaries lined path and see what it might have been like to experience Christmas in the 1800's. Decorated with boughs of fresh greenery and Christmas trees cut from nearby ranch land, the cabins of Fort Croghan come alive with the sights and sounds of Christmas. Bring your camera and your Christmas spirit to Fort Croghan the second Saturday night in December from 5:30p.m. to 8:30 p.m.. A must see for the holiday season. Admission and parking are FREE, donations graciously accepted.
